Marc Moon, Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Moon has been involved in AATS operations for more than a decade, originally as a program committee member for the Annual Meeting beginning in 2009. He has served on the Executive Board from 2012 to the present as Secretary, Vice President, and ultimately President at the 101st Annual Meeting in 2021. Dr. Moon's clinical focus in adult cardiac surgery includes aortic surgery and complex reoperative valvular surgery. Dr. Moon's educational platform focuses on advancing diversity and inclusion in the cardiothoracic community.
S. Chris Malaisrie, Northwestern Memorial Hospital
Dr. S. Chris Malaisrie is a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Northwestern University and Attending Cardiac Surgeon at Northwestern Medicine. Within the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, he directs the Comphrehensive Aortic Center. He specializes in cardiovascular surgery for valvular heart disease, the aorta, and pulmonary artery and the procedures he performs are minimally invasive valve repair, valve-sparing aortic root replacement, Ross procedure, and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. His research focus is on transcatheter and endovascular therapies for heart valves and aorta.
Dr. Malaisrie serves as the Program Director for Thoracic Surgery Residency (Integrated and Traditional) at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. As Chairman of the Blood Transfusion Committee, he seeks to advance patient blood management and responsible blood transfusion practices at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He is a Medical Advisory Board Member of NUVention Medical Innovation Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a member of the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, Kellogg’s School of Management, and Northwestern University School of Law. Outside of Northwestern Medicine, he co-chairs the AATS Cardiac Clinical Practice Standards Committee, chairs the STS Taskforce for International Meetings, and is chair for the ACC Cardiac Surgery Team Section Council.

Sitaram Emani is Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Complex Biventricular Repair Program at Boston Children's Hosptial.
Edward Chen, Duke University
Edward P. Chen, MD is Professor of Surgery at Duke University. He is a graduate of Stanford University, Duke Medical School, University of California San Francisco General Surgery, Emory Cardiothoracic Residency and the UT Houston Aortic Surgery Fellowship. He is internationally visible for his clinical expertise in reoperative thoracic aortic procedures, high-risk and complex adult cardiac surgery. He has published over 250 peer-review articles and his research has focused cerebral protection for aortic arch reconstruction, aortic root operations and valve-sparing aortic root replacement. He has been a PI and co-PI on numerous clinical trials focused on thoracic aortic surgery and structural heart disease. He has won awards for both his research and commitment to teaching including the Thoracic Surgery Residents Association (TSRA) Socrates Award in 2019, European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS) at Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Research Award 4 times in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021 American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Aortic Symposium 2018 Griepp Research Award and Outstanding Teacher in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Dr. Chen serves in several leadership positions in the AATS including the Cardiothoracic Residents Committee, Annual Meeting Didactic Committee, Chair of the Adult Cardiac Skills Course, Ethics Committee, Chair of the AATS Foundation Travel Award Committee, Advisory Council on Education, Aortic Symposium Program Committee, AATS Cardiac Clinical Practice Writing Group of Acute Aortic Type A Dissection, and Co-Chair of the Online Committee.
MANOJ DURAIRAJ
Dr. Manoj Durairaj is the Director of Marian Cardiac Centre and Research Foundation, Pune and Program Director, Heart and Lung Transplantation and MCS, Sahyadri Hospitals, Pune. Dr. Durairaj is the President Elect of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons. He is the Editor of The Revival ( Official Newsletter of the Society for Heart Failure and Transplantation and the Editor of The Heart to Heart ( IACTS Outreach Newsletter).
Dr. Durairaj has completed his MS ( General Surgery ) from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and has done his MCH( CTVS) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He has done his Advanced Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery under Professor Brian Buxton, Melbourne University. Dr Durairaj has been elected as Fellow of the American College od Cardiology and been bestowed with D.Litt. He has been awarded Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice the Highest award for lay persons by the Vatican and also received the best citizen of Pune award by the Mayor of Pune 2018 for his contribution in starting the Heart Tranaplant program in the city.
Dr Durairaj has written 2 Book Chapters in Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology text books and has 21 publications in Indexed Journals.

Ismail El-Hamamsy, MD PhD
Ismail El-Hamamsy, MD, PhD, FRCSC, is System Director of Aortic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Health System and is honored to serve as Mount Sinai’s inaugural Randall B. Griepp Professor of Surgery. His principal surgical focus is aortic root reconstructive surgery in young adults, including patients with heritable and connective tissue disorders.
Before joining Mount Sinai, Dr. El-Hamamsy directed the Montreal Heart Institute’s aortic surgery program, one of the busiest complex aortic surgery programs in North America, and was Associate Professor at the University of Montreal. He founded the Montreal Heart Institute’s Aortic and Connective Tissue Clinics, and helped establish several Ross programs across North America, Europe and Asia. Altogether, he has performed more than 700 Ross procedures and valve-sparing operations, which are among the world’s most complex and challenging aortic surgeries.
Dr. El-Hamamsy completed his medical education and cardiac surgery training at the University of Montreal, followed by a 4-year fellowship in London under the mentorship of Sir Magdi Yacoub. During this period, he completed a PhD entitled “The Living Aortic Valve” at Imperial College London. He currently leads a research team exploring the natural history of aortic disease, as well as innovative therapeutic approaches to diseases of the aorta and aortic valve.
Dr. El-Hamamsy has authored or co-authored several book chapters, as well as more than 150 scientific articles in The Lancet, Circulation, JACC and other leading peer-reviewed journals. He serves on the Editorial Boards of The American Heart Journal, Journal of Heart Valve Disease, Structural Heart and the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, and is an elected member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. He also serves on the Heart Valve Society’s Board of Directors, and – among other humanitarian projects – helped establish the Aswan Heart Center in Egypt.
