
Dr. Coselli is the Executive Vice-Chair of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, holds the Cullen Foundation Endowed Chair, and is Professor of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at BCM. He serves as Chief of Adult Cardiac Surgery at THI, and Associate Chief of the Cardiovascular Service at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He is Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency at THI/BCM and directs the Aortic Fellowship Program at BCM.
Dr. Coselli specializes in diseases of the aorta, and was mentored by the pioneering aortic surgeon, Dr. Crawford, as well as legendary cardiothoracic surgeons, Drs. Cooley and DeBakey. He has performed more than 10,000 aortic repairs, including over 3,600 of thoracoabdominal aorta, for which he is world-renowned. He has published more than 580 medical manuscripts and delivered nearly 900 presentations in 30 countries. In 2008, along with colleague Scott A. LeMaire, Dr. Coselli was coeditor of the book Aortic Arch Surgery: Principles, Strategies and Outcomes published by Wiley-Blackwell.
Dr. Coselli was the two-time recipient of the Michael E. DeBakey Excellence in Research Award (2001 and 2017) for his research on the surgical treatment of aortic aneurysms, aortic dissection, and Marfan syndrome. In 2018, Dr. Coselli received the DeBakey Surgery Award from the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society as well as the Ray C. Fish Award for Scientific Achievement from the Texas Heart Institute recognizing his innovative work in aortic aneurysm surgery. In 2019, he received the Leader of Distinction Award for The Marfan Foundation and in 2021 he received the Medical Honoree Hero with a Heart award for his 29-year commitment to The Marfan Foundation and the field of cardiovascular surgery.
