Joseph Coselli, Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Coselli is the Executive Vice-Chair of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, holds the Cullen Foundation Endowed Chair, and is Professor of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at BCM. He serves as Chief of Adult Cardiac Surgery at THI, and Associate Chief of the Cardiovascular Service at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He is Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency at THI/BCM and directs the Aortic Fellowship Program at BCM.
Dr. Coselli specializes in diseases of the aorta, and was mentored by the pioneering aortic surgeon, Dr. Crawford, as well as legendary cardiothoracic surgeons, Drs. Cooley and DeBakey. He has performed more than 10,000 aortic repairs, including over 3,600 of thoracoabdominal aorta, for which he is world-renowned. He has published more than 580 medical manuscripts and delivered nearly 900 presentations in 30 countries. In 2008, along with colleague Scott A. LeMaire, Dr. Coselli was coeditor of the book Aortic Arch Surgery: Principles, Strategies and Outcomes published by Wiley-Blackwell.
Dr. Coselli was the two-time recipient of the Michael E. DeBakey Excellence in Research Award (2001 and 2017) for his research on the surgical treatment of aortic aneurysms, aortic dissection, and Marfan syndrome. In 2018, Dr. Coselli received the DeBakey Surgery Award from the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society as well as the Ray C. Fish Award for Scientific Achievement from the Texas Heart Institute recognizing his innovative work in aortic aneurysm surgery. In 2019, he received the Leader of Distinction Award for The Marfan Foundation and in 2021 he received the Medical Honoree Hero with a Heart award for his 29-year commitment to The Marfan Foundation and the field of cardiovascular surgery.

Shinichi Fukuhara, University Of Michigan
Dr. Fukuhara is G. Michael Deeb, M.D. and Nancy Deeb Research Professor of Cardiac Surgery at University of Michigan. His specialties include aortic surgery, endovascular aortic repair and transcatheter valve therapy. He earned his medical degree from Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan (2006), where he also received training in surgery (2009) and cardiovascular surgery (2010) with intense endovascular experience. After moving to the United States, he completed his general surgery residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, NY (2014), cardiothoracic surgery residency at Columbia University Medical Center, New York, NY (2016), aortic surgery fellowship at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA (2017). He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the Japan Surgical Society.

Maral Ouzounian, Toronto General Hospital
Dr. Maral Ouzounian is Head of the Division of Cardiovascular at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network, and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto. She is the Munk Chair in Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics and the Antonio & Helga DeGasperis Chair in Clinical Trials and Outcome Studies at University Health Network.
Her clinical and academic interests are in the understanding and management of valvular and aortic diseases including aortic root reconstruction and valve repair, the Ross procedure, and the surgical treatment of complex aortic aneurysms and dissections. She has published over 250 papers in the field and is an author on multiple guidelines and position statements.
She is the Chair of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Adult Cardiac Education Committee and serves on the AATS Membership, Leadership Academy, and Scholarship committees. Dr. Ouzounian was the Chair of the Adult Cardiac Program for the 102nd and 104th Scientific Meetings of the AATS and serves on the program committee for the AATS Aortic Symposium.
Joseph Bavaria, Thomas Jefferson University
Joseph Bavaria, MD, FACS, FRCS (Edin) Ad hom is President; Bruce and Robbie Toll Heart & Vascular Institute, Chair; Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Jefferson Health in Philadelphia. He is Professor Emeritus, University of Pennsylvania. He was the 52nd President of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), and past President of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF). He is the Treasurer and Executive Committee Member of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS). His clinical interests are in Thoracic Aortic Surgery and Heart Valve Disease. Additionally, Dr. Bavaria's clinical interests include a very busy program in the field of thoracic aortic endovascular repair (TEVAR).
He has performed over 11,000 open heart procedures and is the author of approximately 600 original manuscripts, reviews and book chapters and holds multiple patents.
Dr. Bavaria's other clinical interests include valvular heart surgery including bicuspid aortic valve. He was a Primary Investigator for early transcatheter aortic valve (TAVI) clinical trials. He was Founder of the PENN TAVI Program and was the STS/ACC TVT Steering Committee Chair (2017-2020). He founded an active cardio-aortic clinical research group and has been both the institutional and national primary investigator in over 50 industry sponsored, FDA IDE Phase I, II, and III trials.

Steven Lansman, Westchester Medical Center
Dr. Lansman received MD and PhD (Biophysics) degrees in 1977 from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He trained in cardiac surgery at S.U.N.Y. under Dr. Randall Griepp, and received training in cardiac transplantation at Stanford University Hospital, under Dr. Norman Shumway.
In 1986, after serving as Interim Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery for SUNY Brooklyn, The Brooklyn VA Hospital, and Kings County Hospital, Dr. Lansman joined the staff at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He performed the first cardiac transplant at Mount Sinai in 1986 and directed the Mechanical Assist and Heart and Lung Transplant Program through 2004. Since 1988, Dr Lansman has organized and directed The Aortic Symposium series, an internationally recognized forum for surgery of the thoracic aorta.
In 2001-2002, Dr. Lansman was President of the New York Society for Thoracic Surgery and, in 2002, served as interim Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mount Sinai. In 2005 he became Professor of Surgery at New York Medical College and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Westchester Medical Center, where he is is currently Director and Chairman of the Department of Surgery. -

Dr. Thomas Gleason is currently a senior surgeon with Asheville Heart and has distinguished clinical and research expertise in both thoracic aortic and valvular heart disease. His clinical research interests have included the development and refinement of novel valve therapies, particularly aortic valve repair strategies, the study of thoracic aortic diseases, especially bicuspid aortic valve associated aortopathy, and refinement of a systematic approach toward the management of aortic dissections with a distinct focus on neurocerebral malperfusion and neurologic outcomes. His longstanding basic science research interest has been devoted to the study of ascending aortopathies and aortic dissection, particularly that associated with congenital bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). His research on BAV aortopathy has been supported by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health for many years. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons as well as the National Steering Committee for the STS/ACC TVT Registry and is co-Chair of the Research and Publications Committee for the TVT.
